How working with Communities First Partnership Helps FCC
Communities First aims to get local people involved in improving their areas, to bring in funding and other support from a range of sources, to encourage new ways of dealing with problems, and to involve everyone in working together to make their communities better places in which to live and work. The activities must provide some measure of economic, environmental, social or cultural benefit for people living in a Communities First area.
At FCC we work in close partnership with Duffryn Community Link, who operate many of the services within FCC. The Duffryn Community Link is recognised as the leading body for community regeneration in Duffryn and has driven forward the Communities First process in Duffryn. As Helen Dearden is the Communities First coordinator for Tredegar Park Ward, she and the team are able to support us with funding applications to Communities First to develop services within FCC and the community. An overview of such funding streams is shown below.
Outcomes Fund
To develop and deliver new activities, services and projects for the benefit of CF Communities.
Applications can be submitted for activities and services that benefit one or more than one Communities First area within a county or county borough area, and also across County areas.
Proposals must demonstrate that there are operational and strategic links between the Communities First Partnership/Partnerships making the application and relevant service provider(s).
The Communities First Trust Fund
Communities First areas benefit from a special funding stream known as The Communities First Trust Fund. It is administered by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA). The Communities First Trust Fund provides small grants for small community and voluntary organisations in Communities First areas.
Social Enterprise
Social enterprises are businesses set up to tackle a social or environmental need. Social enterprises are distinctive because their social and/or environmental purpose is absolutely central to what they do - their profits are reinvested to sustain and further their mission for positive change. Sunflower Tots Playgroup is a social enterprise set up to tackle a community need for cost effect childcare.
Recent success in funding applications put forward by DCL/Communities First Coordinator, that have benefited Forest Children’s Centre.
Lloyds TSB Foundation - have funded the Volunteer Support Worker 'Jane Lewis' who is currently supporting the BEST (employability course at Forest Children's Centre) but will be available for anyone who would like to volunteer, gain work experience or get more skills- this means we can signpost any prospective volunteers to Jane for support and guidance, a great asset for the centre also.
Comic Relief - successful in getting the organisation to fund the BEST III project (employability course at Forest Children's Centre) Community Cohesion Fund (Community Safety Partnership) has supported Duffryn Community Link to ensure that we can continue to run Cafe Coed at Forest Children's Centre. The café is a prime engagement tool within FCC.
Outcome Fund- provided the funding for Childcare Coordinator for all childcare operated by DCL but operated within FCC – this has taken away all the financial aspects of childcare from FCC staff, allowing them to focus their time more on the needs of the clients using FCC.
