Hello, I’m Geraint Hughes and I’m the Dad’s Officer for Forest Children’s Centre, although I do support other areas in Newport also. I’ve been in this role for 2 ½ years. Previously, I worked as a fabricator/welder for National Coal Board and British Steel. I was also employed as a parenting worker for the Newport Youth Offending Team.
As Dad’s Officer, I offer personalised support in a variety of ways, including:
• Child protection conferences • Court hearings • Social service appointments • Housing issues • Debt and Benefit issues • Relationship issues • Drug and alcohol support • Education and schools • Job hunting • Separation & divorce • Parenting support • Domestic Violence (men as victims & perpetrators)
As well as professional support dads are able to get support from each other, by sharing their own experiences. As their relationships grow, friendships develop. For some dads just dropping in for a relaxing coffee and chat is what they need. Our drop in session enables dads to have some fun time together. As a group of dads the topics of conversation can range from the best sports car on the market to how they parent their children.
Fatherhood is a life long journey. We are here to help dads understand and fulfil their role as a father.
