Hello, I'm Alison Wallace and I'm the Outreach Worker for Forest Children's Centre. I have been in this role for 3 years; previously I had worked at the Centre as the Family Support Worker.
Prior to this, I worked in Early Years in Nursery and School. I loved working with children with ‘additional needs’ - I have a special interest in Autism. I am still currently working as a Youth Worker part time two evenings a week.
As an Outreach Worker, I can support Parents/carers in many ways, including:
- helping to build self confidence and self-esteem; - support with Literacy and Numeracy issues; - liaise with Community partnerships (Police, Fire Service, Sports); - development, Youth Service, CommunitiesFirst; - give parents access to Further Education, thus giving parents greater job prospects; - signpost/refer to other support networks; - support and attend case conferences; - working alongside relevant agencies (Social Workers, EdPsy, Health Visitors, Midwife, school staff).
I feel it is important for parents not to be too hard on themselves and know that it is ok to enjoy themselves, which can have a positive effect on their relationships. At FCC, we have organised fun events for parents from attending outdoor pursuits weekends, spa days and the annual summer ball, amongst other things.
If you need any support, a friendly chat or in a more formal way, feel free to visit the Centre or contact me via our contacts page here...
